Second Anniversary of this Blog

I posted my first essay on this blog two years ago, December 6, 2007. It was a cheeky piece, "Pat's Breast Is Here," about how so many medical folks saw me as a disembodied breast while I went through treatment. Since then, I have added 175 posts; learned an extraordinary amount; racked up almost 39,000 page views; and connected with lovely readers from all over the world.

The blog has become a part of me, a focus of my life, and a beautiful reward. I am saddened to see the search terms readers use to get to me: The most popular is a variation of "triple negative survival statistics." Readers often frame that question in terms such as "Can you survive triple negative?" The answer, of course, is yes. Triple negative is not an automatic death sentence, and I have posted the stats here to prove that--the great majority of women with the disease survive.

I sit here with a sinus infection feeling sorry for myself . And then I get perspective. I am more than three-years disease-free of hormone-negative, and most cases recur in the first three years. My readers remind me also that my case was not that big of a deal.

So happy anniversary to this blog, and thanks to all of you who have connected with me, and whose emails I look forward to--Deb, Ghazala, Noreen, Victoria, Marousa, Rose, Anhila, Doris, Kimberly, Susan, Carol, Julie, Susan, Nancy, Penny, Chelsea.... What a beautiful international list.

Pat--congrats on the two year mark! I can't remember when I started following your blog, but as I was dx with TN a year ago, it has been within the last year. I do know that I have read almost everything you have posted in your blog and you have provided me with much knowledge and encouragement! Thank you so much! Here's hoping we both will be reading/writing on blogs in 10 years! Hope your day is a great one and thanks again!

Kim: Thanks for the note! I hope you are well. In 10 years, I hope I have interns writing my blog. :) Or even a staff.... Or that I no longer need it as a cure has been found.

I have found so much good information from your site. I was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago and am getting nervous about making the magical 3 year mark. Thanks for posting the positives about being negative, Lord knows we have a hard time finding many. Keep up the good work.

I was also nervous when I was nearing three years. Those types of anniversaries can really set us off. 2.5 years though, means you are well on your way. And, as I keep saying, most women do survive.

Congrats, Patricia. As someone who has just reached her one-year anniversary with Stage IIa triple negative bc, I know what a big deal 3 years is. Your site has provided me with lots of useful information, much of which I have passed on to others in our situation. I check it every day, so please keep up the great work.

Congrats on the one-year mark, Mimi. I'll keep you in my prayers--here's to many, many more years. And thanks for the kind words on the site. I have been out of town for a week, so I need to get busy updating. Pat

Bill: I've read your blog and you are a wonderfully supportive husband--just what every woman needs at a time like this. And stage 1, node negative is good news--focus on that. I will keep Dana and you in my prayers. Pat
